Edirne was the second capital of the Ottoman Empire and it is a gateway of Turkey opening to the Western world.

Selimiye Mosque, built between 1569 – 1575 by Imperial Architect Sinan upon the orders of Sultan Selim II. It was considered by Sinan to be his masterpiece and is one of the highest achievements of Islamic architecture.

Old Mosque, This mosque is the oldest Ottoman monument in Edirne. The construction of the Old Mosque of Edirne began in 1402 by order of Emir Süleyman and was completed under the rule of his brother Mehmed I in 1414 .

Üçşerefeli Mosque, is also among the oldest and most impressive buildings. Üçşerefeli Mosque, named after its unusual minaret with three balconies (serefe), was built between 1437 and 1447 by Murad II. Each of the four minarets has a different architectural shape.

Arasta Bazaar, also a work of Architect Sinan, which is situated next to Selimiye Mosque is an appropriate place for tourist articles and memorabilia. Here you may buy specialities of the city, soaps shaped like fruit or vegetables.

Meric Bridge, (New Bridge) constructed at the junction of Meriç and Arda rivers in between 1842 - 1847.

Beyazit Külliyesi, Sultan Beyazit II built (in 1484-88) a large complex near his residence on the right bank of the River Tunca. It is one of the first buildings "signed" by its designer (Mimar Hayreddin), an indication that the sultans gave great importance to architecture.

The complex included a medrese which housed a medical school; students put into practice what they learnt in an adjoining darussifa. The size of these buildings show that they were intended for elite students and patients. A section of the hospital was devoted to the treatment of the mentally ill. These were housed in a domed pavilion and from their rooms they could see a fountain placed at the centre of the building.

Miniatures illustrating books used in the medical school show that music was used to soothe the patients` anxiety and that manual manufacturing of simple objects (such as straw canisters) helped in restoring their self-confidence.
